Acne and Diet
It is of course a well known fact that your diet plays a big role in your acne both in terms of how long you have it and how bad it is. So, what should you be eating to help clear up your acne for good? Well, wonder no more - here are the answers:
Acne and diet - Vitamin A
Vitamin A is essential for healthy skin and keeping a stable hormonal balance. Research has already provlen that people with the most severe cases of acne typically have lower levels of vitamin A in their bloodstream. Many patients who were tested with Vitamin A as an acne treatment reported that their faces cleared up within just one month of taking vitamin A. Some good, natural sources of vitamin A include carrots, green leafy vegetables (eg. broccoli and cabbage), yellow or orange fruits (e.g. oranges and peaches).
Acne and diet - Essential Fatty Acids
Essential Fatty Acids (EFA) can help hormonal imbalances that eventually lead to acne breakouts. In fact, people with hormonal related acne breakouts have indeed been shown to have deficiencies of EFA's in their systemm so it is well worth your while ensuring that your diet contains plenty of the EFA's. Some typical foods that are rich in EFA's include sunflower, soybean, corn or safflower oils, sunflower seeds and linseeds.
Acne and diet - Zinc
Zinc is well known to be able to help acne sufferers reduce and often remove acne completely. Whilst the mechanism of exactly how it works is still not totally understood, a lack of zinc has definitely been shown to increase the production of male hormones in the body. There have been numerous reports already of patients who have been cured of chronic acne by taking a low fat diet mixed with zinc gluconate supplements. Zinc is found naturally in plentiful amounts in brewers yeast, whole grains, brazil nuts and pumpkin seeds.

Vitamin B6 is particularly helpful in cases of acne. Studies have been carried out on acne sufferes with Vitamin B6 and the results showed that their acne was reduced by a signifcant 50 - 75%.

Selenium is what's known as a 'trace element' that when coupled with vitamins A & E, can reduce the severity of persistent acne Selenium & Acne within just 12 weeks of use. It has also been proven to help prevent scarring of the face once the acne has gone.
Acne and diet - Chromium
Some reports that suggest that a massive 90% of the population may be under deficient in chromium in their body. Chromium is related to blood sugar, where the more sugars we eat, the more chromium we need in our system. Researchers have found that people with unstable blood sugar levels have a much higher occurrence of severe acne. When these patients were given just 400 micrograms of chromium (in the form of yeast), their skin rapidly improved and their acne was greatly reduced, and in some cases dissappeared completely. Chromium can be found naturally in both brewers yeast and molasses.
